by Keren

1 cup non-fat dry milk

2/3 cup sugar

1/3 cup boiling water

3 t melted butter

Mix in blender until smooth.  Makes the same as a 14 oz. can of sweetened condensed milk…much less expensively!  Yum!

I have to ask. Does this really really taste and work the same? I have seen this tip before and I am very skeptical. I don’t use sweetened cond. milk often but when I do it is usually in a dessert that is time consuming and a costly thing to make. I have not wanted to try it and have to throw something out. So, is it really as good? I would love to try it if it really works. Sorry for being so skeptical. :)

Here from Tammy’s Recipes…I, too, am curious whether you’ve done a taste test between this and the canned stuff. I want to try it but I’d also love to hear if someone else has compared it.;-)

    Lynn and simplythis,

It basically tastes the same, though the consistency is thinner when first made. After it is refrigerated, though, it is much thicker. (Or even once it just cools down) Also, I can sense a slight sugared texture, but this could probably be resolved by dissolving the sugar into the water while it is boiling.

In my opinion, I think it is just as good, if not better!

    Hope that helps!
