Sav-Mor Fun

By request, here’s a picture of our “food yard sale” savings from this morning:

My sister joined us again, and did an amazing job at packing all of this into just 2 banana boxes for us! (By the way that is juice in the bottles. :) ) For fun, we decided to calculate what the food would cost at normal price in stores. We came to about $400! For just $12. We are so thankful that the Lord has provided such a fun way to get food inexpensively–and even get lots of “fun” foods (we were looking for granola bars and should be set for months!!)! :)

See other “Super Savings Saturday” here.

My husband saw your husband there today. We only got one box this time since we still had some left over from last time. Have you visited Moneysavingmom? She put both our pictures on a post! I was so excited.

Jessica, one of these days maybe we’ll run into each other! :) I had no idea our shopping trips were on MSM, and was quite surprised to see our pictures on there! Of course it was the trip that we got mostly snack food, too. ;) The sidewalk sale is definitely getting crowded these days!

You did great! I was running a tad late and then, of course, got behind every driver that enjoyed going 15 miles under the spped limit. I was sure that I was doomed by my 9:05 arrival, but even though I missed a lot of good stuff, I still got probably $75-100 worth of food for $6. Mostly marshmallow fluff and peanut butter. I’m thinkin’ fudge. :^)

Just came across your blog recently and was excited to see that you are local. And that you’re great at frugal living! I have a friend who has been going to these sales for a while now. I can’t believe all of the stuff you guys get! I must get myself to the next one! Are they every other weekend or just once a month?
Thanks for sharing all of your finds and tips with us!

I’m so bummed! I’ve been waiting for the food yardsale after the month of Saturday rains! Oh, well – I can’t wait to stock up in a couple of weeks. NICE job on all your food! I don’t think I could have fit all that into my pantry! :)

This type of sale is very local. It is a salvage sale of food that is “expired,” near expiration date, or just wasn’t very popular for the price it was being sold. Interestingly enough, there’s a lot of organic food (probably because most people don’t want to pay extra for organic cake mix or organic candy bars. :) )

No, no coupons allowed. You are getting lots of food for practically free, anyway. They say “go” and 9a.m., and everyone rushes into the shopping area and fills their box with as much as they can as fast as they can.

    Jessica,

If things go according to schedule, it should be on May 10. If it’s raining we typically call the store, though we’ll be away that morning.

As one of the store managers that gets started at 6am for each of these sales I am very honored to know we have become so famous for the great savings. We truly enjoy watching the madness that it has become and the good that comes out of it. We’ll keep setting them up as long as we can get the product. It’s looking like it will be about every other weekend maybe every third on occasion. While you guys are there be sure to check out the great prices inside the store on meats and produce as well. Happy Shopping from all of us Store Managers at Sav-Mor.
