Double Duty: Crockware as a Knife Sharpener

If you have a crockware bowl, but don’t want to go to the trouble of buying a knife sharpener or paying to have them sharpened, you can very easily use the unglazed edge to sharpen your knives. Don’t have a crockware bowl? The same thing can be done on the bottom of a coffee mug. (In fact, any ole’ unglazed porcelain edge will do.)

I received two sets of bowls as wedding gifts from family members. Since they are heavy and I don’t really need to use both sets, I leave the bowl set with the top unglazed edge on top of our fridge–both as decor and knife sharpener. It is easy to access and I can quickly sharpen my knives whenever I feel they are getting dull.

Knives should be sharpened at an angle, using a circular motion as you go.
That’s what works for me!
